Saying Good-Bye

Our dog, Memphis, a Border Collie-Black Lab cross, is dying of cancer. A couple of months ago he developed a large tumor on his tonsils  which we had surgically removed. The  tumor proved to be cancerous , but for a while, he was back to his old self. (If any of you know border collies you know how intense they can be.) Alas,  the tumor has returned and the cancer has spread to a lymph node. It is only time now. We will keep him with us as long as he is not suffering too much. We aren’t using pain killers yet but we may be doing that soon. It won’t be long, I think, before we have to say goodbye. He will be missed and remembered. He  is only eight years old.

We have always had dogs and cats and have had to part with many.  I always mourn the loss.  They become members of your family, a part of your life, signposts on The Road.
